Pelican cruising on the Murray yet we never saw them catch a single fish.

The mighty River Murray – Third longest navigable river after the Amazon and the Nile! The Murray is continuously navigable for 1986 km from Goolwa to Yarrawonga – some journey!

 

Calder Ferry crossing – another little ferry operating 24hr service and one can ring at night if the ferry is stationed across the river. However there is a bill waiting to be passed that would see the end of this ferry service and many like it.

Narrung Jetty campsite – South Australia 04-12-2013

Narrung Ferry Crossing – These little ferry’s operate a 24hrs service!

Cousin Sonja Hoffmann was born at  Meringie (south of Narrung) in 1951!

Point Malcolm Lighthouse – The only inland lighthouse in Australia and also the smallest at 7m tall.It was constructed to mark the narrow passage between Lake Albert and Lake Alexandrina..  First operated in 1878 until 1931 and its lighthouse keepers were self sufficient, even selling extra crops. They stored perishables in a small cave until a boat called to transport them to other settlements..

Magpie Lark on a hot hot day! We did see Black Cockatoos flying overhead at this bush lovers campsite. A waterhole full of yabbies and fish too, alas no bait!

Eucalyptus surviving January’s  terrible bushfire - Regrowth from epicormic buds buried deep within the trunk. (In normal conditions the crown of leaves on the tree produces hormones which inhibit the epicormic buds from sprouting) that sprout anywhere along branches and trunk giving the trees a ‘fluffy’ appearance, The native cypress pines do not have this survival advantage and have remained as black skeletons.
