It is believed that the Japanese Covered Bridge was started in 1593 – Year of the Monkey and finished in 1595 – Year of the Dog. A pair of these two animal statues are placed at both ends and represent guardians of the bridge.

The ancient Japanese Bridge - taken from An Hoi island across the river.
This bridge was built in the 1590’s to connect the Japanese community with the Chinese quarters across the stream. About 40 years after the Hoi An Japanese Bridge was constructed, the Japanese were demanded by the Tokugawa Shogunate to return home to Japan under order of Sakoku - officially closing Japan to the rest of the world.

The famous Dragon Bridge – The worlds largest steel dragon - completed in 2013.
Every Saturday and Sunday at 21.00 hrs, the Dragon sprays fire 18 times and water three times! Unfortunately we missed this event!
