River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) This historic tree, known as The separation tree is estimated to be 400 years old, and was at this location that the citizens of Victoria gathered on 15th November 1850 to celebrate the news of the separation of Victoria from New South Wales.

The tree was damaged (looks like ringbarking!) last August and remedial care has been ie pegging the bark back all round the tree and monitoring its water intake. It is hoped to increase the tree’s chance of survival.
