Ngarinyin Wandjina 2003 – Ngarinyin Artist: Deanne Bidd

This work is based on the Wandjina and Gyorn Gyorn figures that are found as cave paintings in the north-west Kimberley.

Ngarinyin people are all represented by the Wandjina, named Wanalirra who is the supreme spirit for Ngarinyin. In the artist’s words ‘We are one body for the painting that is Ngarinyin’

This painting is a woman’s body painting design. Emily Kame Kngwarreye did not begin painting until she was in her seventies and was awarded an Australian Artists Creative Fellowship in 1992.

Ngatilli, black cockatoo 1992 – Artist: David Malangi

This painting shows the black cockatoos sitting in a tree looking at the Dhamala waterholes, close to the mouth of the Glyde River. This river is near the Arafura swamp in Malangi’s country.
