Eucla to Penong - Nullarbor Plain South Australia 06-11-10

Mallee scrub

Typical view of low bushes and grasses

Oondiri meaning 'the waterless' is more accurate than Nullarbor to describe this vast Plain
Mallee scrub appears to cover at least a third of the plain and rounded bushes and grasses for the remainder but then we only travelled on the Eyre Highway with some diversions on dirt roads to view the coast.

Dingo sighted at last - We saw Emu but nary a camel, wombat or live 'roo

Flowering gum at Jallah Rockhole campsite plus a billion stars on the Plain

Showy everlastings

Old Telegraph Station opened in 1877 when Eucla had a population of over 100 and this was the busiest telegraph station in Australia beyond capital cities!
We visited the ruins in 1968 and it has changed little.
