Waratah to Cradle Mountain Tasmania 15-02-11

Map showing old railway once serving the Hellyer mine.

Myrtle beech (centre) growing in the rough hewn channel

White lichen with brown fruiting spores?

Disused railway leading to the old Hellyer mine

Old moss covered track off the B132 and so rarely used!

Our 'wild campsite' - A moss covered track leading to an old old hand hewn channel approx 13ft deep cut in solid rock to form a watercourse possibly from the river Que and for the mining in the area. The nearest appears to be Hellyer mine.
You can see that the channel (stream still running at the bottom) is now covered in white lichen and overgrown with trees mainly teatrees and some myrtle beech.

Woolly moth?
