Thought to be extinct the last 'Changi tree' was discovered in October 2002 and estimated to be 150 years old; however it was felled shortly after it was declared a National Heritage Tree. Fortunately seeds had been collected from the tree and seeds from the last Changi tree have grown to super sapling stage at 6 years old and hopefully will be allowed to develop a full crown at height and girth fitting for this once majestic tree. Above is a portion from the Changi tree, confiscated from the sawmill after it was felled.
